Postural Assessment
From the moment we are born, our musculoskeletal system is
subjected to stress that, over time, causes imbalances from
the subtle to the severe. Factors that may contribute to the
decline of our posture include injuries, repetitive motion,
trauma, and genetics. Even our personalities can affect our
somatic makeup. One shoulder may be higher than the other,
or one leg may be longer. We all have our own personal postural
swerve.
Whatever our shape, there is inherently some “misshape”
to it. Over time, this misshape forces us to compensate for
the imbalance it causes. Unfortunately, this often leads to
chronic pain, discomfort, and injury in the body. An active
body tends to reinforce the stress by repeating the same activity,
just as an inactive body will continue to grow weaker from
disuse. Either way, instability follows. After completing
a postural assessment, we’ll identifying your patterns
so that you can learn to tailor simple postures, everyday
movements, and exercise to compliment—not aggravate—your
“swerve.”
