About Michael Feldman and Mike’s
Body Shop
Always an athlete deeply interested in the biomechanics of
human potential, Michael earned a football scholarship to
Syracuse University, raced as an amateur cyclist in Boulder,
CO, and learned to surf the waters of the Pacific. Leading
such an active lifestyle, Michael has learned firsthand about
the demand for proper conditioning and the inherent risks
of injury. All of his experience has contributed to the deep
somatic intelligence he now shares through his work and teachings.
His formal education includes certification from the Rolf®
Institute, Pilates training with Romana Kryzanowaska, in-depth
yoga training with John Friend and Julie Gudmestad, and motor
control with Jean Claude West. Michael is also a Certified MELT Instructor and CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.
Michael’s talent lies in combining these various tools,
and also in his gift for intuitive touch and out-of-the-box
thinking. With over 22 years of experience, one of his strengths
is diagnosing and treating postural and musculoskeletal issues
that linear therapists and medical practitioners might miss.
Michael believes the source of most discomfort and injury
lies within the imbalance of the body’s structure, not
necessarily the location where symptoms occur. Through subtle
self-awareness techniques and therapeutic homework he educates
clients on how to maintain this newfound freedom, comfort,
and poise in movement.
Among colleagues, Michael is considered a master bodyworker.
His style is effective and his teaching is inspiring. When
he is not working directly with clients, Michael leads classes
and workshops nationwide and has appeared as a speaker at
such events as the AMTA National Convention, the Rolf®
Institute Annual Meeting, and the Yoga Journal Conference,
as well as for established athletic companies YogaWorks, Adidas,
and Reebok. Michael currently maintains a private practice
in San Francisco and Marin County.
